2012 Programme of Journeys of Remembrance – Pilgrimage Tours and Battlefield Tours
Working with Leger Holidays once again for 2012 we will be offering two types of tours; Journeys of Remembrance and Battlefield Tours.
As the National Custodian of Remembrance, The Royal British Legion invites you to journey with us to explore, rediscover and remember the bravery and sacrifice of our forces in two World Wars.
We have once again joined forces with Leger Holidays to bring you a wide range and choice of Battlefield Tours and Journeys of Remembrance to commemorate the momentous events that took place in Europe and the rest of the World.
Each of our Journeys of Remembrance is accompanied by the Legion support party representatives, including a senior member of the Legion and a Standard Bearer .Their key duty is to provide assistance in the Acts of Remembrance for the Fallen which are such an important aspect of these pilgrimages. A medic will also form part of this party. We endeavour to strike a balance between a traditional battlefield tour and a personal pilgrimage. Our carefully selected tour guides are not only battlefield experts but understand the true meaning of pilgrimage. Journeys of Remembrance tours will follow the outline itineraries shown on this site but will also be flexible enough to allow time for private and public cemetery visits and Acts of Remembrance.
We offer again this year a small number of selected Battlefield Tours for those who wish to explore particular campaigns. Each tour is accompanied by a senior member of the Legion and a guide carefully selected for their intimate knowledge of the particular sites being visited.
Following helpful feedback on the 2011 programme, for 2012 some tours do not use the ‘feeder coach” system but rather have direct pick ups in both central London and in Kent.
Demand for places on these tours is, as you would expect, always high, so I encourage you to reserve your place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
I hope you find something of interest in these pages and look forward to the pleasure of your company on tour.
Very best wishes.
